Eating By Absolute Design

And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.

~Exodus 23:25

If you grew up in a Christian home, nine times out of ten, you preceded every meal with a “blessing”.  These blessing are said to make the food nourishing for our bodies, but how far does a blessing really go?  Does saying a blessing before we consume our food cancel out the need to care about the content of our diet?  The previous question begs one to take a passive position in what they allow into their temple (your body).

In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (New International Version (NIV), it states:

19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

With this verse in mind, one is invoked to really take a second glance at exactly what you put into your body.  Whether as a result of either ignorance, necessity, or deliberation, we eat toxic, processed foods that can have a tremendously detrimental toll on our health.  God’s bounty on Earth did not get locked away in the Garden of Eden.  This bounty is in the form of countless fruits, vegetables, and herbs which are wholesome and are specifically created for our ultimate health and benefit.

When we turn away from man-made drugs and foods, and turn to the cornucopia of natural nutrition we first honor the Most High and secondly, we honor ourselves with great health!  So the next time you eat a healthy meal, express deep gratitude in knowing that you are eating according to God’s absolute design.
